My youngest son went to the oral surgeon to get his wisdom teeth removed. He had what I thought was a funny response to the anesthesia. Had lunch with a close friend whose daughter used the same oral surgeon and had the same response: high activity level and energy. Only difference was my son was agitated by it, her daughter wasn't. Can't help but wonder if this is common?
Another thing we were talking about was the difference in cost, me with insurance her without dental insurance. She paid about a thousand more than me. But the thing that gets me with my dental insurance is it hadn't covered the cost of anesthesia. Makes me shake my head every time thinking that it covered the removal but hey! just do it with him wide awake and feeling everything......
Talking about teeth, I went to the dentist. I had a tooth that the filling was cracked (damn jaw breakers, I knew I shouldn't be crunching on them). While having my teeth cleaned, they found 2 cavities. I would say that's bad except they found 6 in hubby's mouth. Funny thing about this: he's ALWAYS bragging about how he NEVER has cavities. I am now the proud owner of another crown, this makes 8 in my mouth. The way I'm going, my mouth will be worth a small fortune. Wondering if there is a market for gold in crowns after I pass away.......
I also went to the dermatologist for a full body check. I have to do this once a year thanks to the doctor finding several pre melanoma spots in the past. He didn't find any this time but decided to treat a spot because it 'just didn't look right.' Part of me was glad that he was being proactive until he froze that spot. Man that hurt for a few days! Now the funny thing about seeing him was me getting ready for this visit. I don't know about you, but when I have to see a doctor and know that I have to get butt naked except for the flimsy paper gown, I take extra care in the shower to make sure things are neat and hair free. Not this time. I looked at my armpits, looked at my razor then decided it just wasn't worth it. Guess it's another sign of aging......
I was reminded that there are only six weeks left of my summer break. I wish I could say that I have tons of fun things planned but instead I spent the extra money on redoing my family room but I'm going to save this for another days post. Hubby has been researching day trips so that we can do a trip here and there. Many of them involve alcohol. This should be a fun summer.........

Just reading the word "dentist" makes me cringe and that's even if you didn't mention "crown". Heck, with those crowns, you should be counted as royalty! (and I'm sure they cost a royal fortune, too)
ReplyDeleteNever thought about that Cora! Yep, queen mama has a nice sound to it ;o)
DeleteYep I hate doctor visits. Specially when I was pregnant.
ReplyDeleteThis summer we are back in the States for a month. I hope mine will be with alcohol too to wash off all the stress these days.

Agree that we are in need of stress relief. I'm thinking that I'll be buying several bottles of alcohol on my trips ;o)
DeleteI'm so glad you are back but it seems that you are all falling apart. It seems like everyone is spending a bit of cash these days!
ReplyDeleteDJ has to get his wisdom teeth out. He got a small reprieve, we are changing medical insurance July 1st so I have to wait until after that to set everything up.
When my husband had his wisdom teeth out, they couldn't knock him out. It took four times the normal amount to get him to go under. The surgeon came out to talk to me and said my husband thought it was a party. He was ready to go out after they gave him 2 doses. LOL
Yes, I feel like we ALL are falling apart. My third son was like your hubby BUT instead of giving him a second dose, they just went ahead and pulled his teeth. To this day he tells how he felt EVERYTHING. Needless to say, I didn't use this oral surgeon with fourth son.
Deletelol! Planning a trip around alcohol is definitely a sign that you won't be taking the kids! For us, we had to plan the trips around the nearest emergency rooms...
ReplyDeleteOh Val, it's thanks to all the distilleries located in the bluegrass state. Hubby wants to be able to say he's been to every bourbon distillery ;o)
DeleteWe've had HUGE increases in private health insurance just recently Bonnie, and so many people here don't go for dental care as they simply can't afford it. Or with dental that is classed as an "extra" and people can't afford the "extra" premium on top. The waiting list on the public system is a joke.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow I do go, but gosh you've gotta drag me!
Haha, getting ready for the body check - I'm too embarrassed to tell you how long it takes me, I'm so spit and polished its a wonder I don't glow.
Great to see you!! :)
Rose, I only went because I cracked that filling. It had been TWO years since I had last gone. When they were rating my gums around each tooth there were way too many 3's (on a scale of 1-4 with 1 being great, 4 being bad). I already have my 6 month check-up scheduled.
DeleteSo understand the glowing part ;o)
Alas, we have no health insurance. Husband has been to the dentist for extractions twice this year. Years ago when he had his wisdom teeth out, he opted for just novacaine. He was a braver, stronger, younger man ...... with hair!
ReplyDeleteKathy,
DeleteOUCH!
Oh, your post reminds me that I need to call the dentist on Monday. I've just noticed a small bit of one of my fillings has broken. I hate that feeling of a broken filling - just can't stop worrying away at it - pity it had to happen at the weekend!!
ReplyDeleteJenny I know what you mean about hating the feeling. My tongue kept rubbing the cracked filling until I got it fixed. It was driving me nuts knowing that it was cracked. Though my dentist has emergency hours on Saturday. Found this out the hard way ;o)
DeleteOh Bonnie this was a hoot.
ReplyDeleteI so understand the shaving for the doctors!
And I think I'd like that anesthesia your son had if it gives you energy. What's not to like? Bring it on - I'm slow in my old age.
Peg, he was so wired for the first few hours but when he crashed, he was out for almost a whole day! Oh to be able to sleep that soundly again!
DeleteSO have you gone on any day trips?
ReplyDeleteNot yet, between all the doctor appointments and previous commitments, we haven't been able to get away :o(
DeleteI hate doctors and dentists, but have to go anyway, unfortunately. And now that my husband just retired and I am not old enough to get on a Medicare insurance, I am on Cobra ins. and man, is it ever expensive! Hubby was lucky enough (?) to get the Medicare ins., so thank God, we don't have the high Cobra premiums for him.
ReplyDeleteI also just got my 8th crown! I thought I was the only one with a mouthful of crowns?! Glad to know I am not alone! :)
Diann, I grew up where we had a cistern and fluoride wasn't a word we knew. Hence I have a mouth full of crowns and fillings. I paid cobra once, it was WAY too expensive for us. Went on my insurance and have stayed on it since. Thank goodness when I retire, I can stay on it then too.
